The problem
Seven programming tracks running in parallel — climate and nature, net zero, innovation, stakeholder engagement, circularity, and strategy among them — each needing its own color so a packed multi-day program stayed readable at a glance. A flat, single-color agenda list wasn’t going to hold seven tracks apart.
The approach / solution
- Built a custom sessions agenda widget assigning a distinct color to each of the seven programming tracks, so a registrant scanning a dense schedule could tell tracks apart on sight.
- Shipped a second version of the core sessions widget adding a guard clause for empty data, after the first version broke on days when a schedule was still being finalized.
- Built a companion session-details widget carrying full session information for anyone who wants more than the agenda view gives them.
- Built it all inside Swoogo’s own Twig templating system — the page builder doesn’t accept anything else.
Outcome / result
The program now runs across seven visually distinct tracks in one agenda view, with a details widget behind it for anyone who wants to go deeper on a specific session. The second version’s empty-data handling has kept the widget from breaking on days when the schedule isn’t fully locked yet.
Why it matters for enterprise event-tech
A conference running seven parallel tracks lives or dies by whether attendees can actually parse the schedule. Color-coding built into the agenda widget itself, not a legend attendees have to cross-reference, is what makes a packed multi-track program navigable instead of overwhelming.
