The problem
Five filter fields — event type, date, course title, subject, state — is what it takes to make a training catalog usable once a client is running courses across multiple states, subjects, and delivery formats at the same time. Swoogo’s stock event list is one flat, date-sorted feed. A prospective registrant hunting for an in-person course on a specific subject in their own state has to scroll past everything else to find it.
The approach / solution
- Built the client’s main “All Events” list widget with a grid/calendar view toggle and five filters running at once: event type, date, course title, subject, and state.
- Built a companion “Recent Events” widget for the account’s homepage, splitting listings into Upcoming In-Person and Upcoming Online sections, capped at four events each so the page reads as a snapshot rather than a scroll.
- Delivered both directly inside Swoogo’s own Twig templating system. Swoogo’s page builder only accepts Twig, so the filtering logic and both view modes live entirely inside that constraint — no separate catalog tool sits behind either widget.
Outcome / result
Both widgets run in production on this client’s Swoogo account today. A prospective attendee can narrow the full course catalog to one state, one subject, one format, then flip between a grid and a calendar depending on which view actually helps them decide.
Why it matters for enterprise event-tech
Any events business running several parallel course tracks hits the same wall — a plain event list stops being useful past a handful of listings. Building real multi-filter browsing and view-mode flexibility into the platform’s own templating layer keeps that capability inside Swoogo instead of forcing the client to bolt on a separate course-catalog product.
