Three Agenda Widgets, One Path: Session to Speaker to Detail Without a Restart

Sessions, speaker bios, and session details wired together as one browsing path instead of three disconnected pages on a Swoogo event microsite.

The problem

Three agenda widgets already existed on this client’s Swoogo microsite: a sessions list, a speaker-bio view, and a session-detail view. Each one worked fine on its own. None of them talked to each other. A registrant scanning the sessions list who wanted to know more about a speaker had to leave the page, search the speaker directory separately, then find their way back to where they’d left off in the agenda. For a multi-day conference with a full program, that’s friction on every single session a registrant looks at.

The approach / solution

  • Built a Sessions Agenda widget listing the full program, each entry linking directly to its speaker and its detail view.
  • Built a Speaker Details widget rendering full speaker bios, reachable from any session that speaker is attached to.
  • Built a Session Details widget carrying the full session write-up, cross-linked back to the speaker and forward to related sessions.
  • Wired the three together inside Swoogo’s own native Twig templating system, since Swoogo’s page builder only accepts Twig — there’s no separate app sitting behind any of this.

Outcome / result

A registrant can now start on the sessions list, tap through to a speaker’s bio, then pull up the full session detail, all without losing their spot in the program. Three widgets that used to sit next to each other now function as one browsing path.

Why it matters for enterprise event-tech

A program with dozens of sessions and speakers only feels navigable if moving between them doesn’t cost the registrant their place. Associations running recurring conferences need that continuity built in before registrants start complaining about it. Three widgets wired as one connected suite is what makes a session catalog feel like a real program browser.
